Reporting to the CIO/Head of IT, the Security Consultant will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of security throughout IT and the wider organisation. Leveraging their deep technical and security experience, the Security Consultant is integral in leading the organisation’s cyber security program encompassing both strategic and business as usual projects and deliverables, while ensuring alignment with best practice security methodologies and standards.

Outcomes and measures

  • Lead and work collaboratively with IT teams and wider business to design, develop and review the security roadmap taking into account the changing threat landscape
  • Develop understanding in a wide variety of technologies
  • Evaluate and respond to emerging security issues. Evaluate capability risks and gaps, and takes action, or coordinates action to meet objectives
  • Evaluate process effectiveness and identifies areas for improvement
  • Analyse and document security events. Identifies root causes, prioritises threats and recommends or implements corrective actions. Tests and deploys risk mitigation process
  • Review and advise on current and future technologies before implementation
  • Conduct security reviews of pending or recently acquired businesses and make appropriate recommendations
  • Coordinate with IT department, Managed Service Providers and partners to prevent and mitigate security incidents
  • Assess and review ways of automating, orchestrating, streamlining and combining relevant technologies to uplift protection capabilities

Professional skills, qualifications and experience

  • 3-5 years’ experience working in a security specialist role
  • Sound understanding and experience in developing information security practices in an organisational context
  • Extensive knowledge of security frameworks and standards including ASD8, NIST, ISO27001 and others of relevance
  • Creation and ongoing maintenance of cyber security incident response plan
  • Contribute and present at Security Risk Committee meetings to business stakeholders
  • Ability to write and present formal reports and presentations on security proposals, results or issues.
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications
  • Relevant security (CISSP, CISM, ISO 270001, IRAP, DRAP, etc) or technical certifications
  • Organisation and review of security processes and procedures:
    • Work with partners in conducting security audits
    • Organisation and review of penetration tests with vendors. Review, remediation and recommendations based on findings
